15. From language to life is just four letters.
Richard Powers

The form and function of all living organisms is determined by the genetic code. The code consists of just four chemical compounds whose names are abbreviated to the four letters A, T, G and C. From language to life is just four letters.

In the DNA, the genetic code is a triplet code of A,T,G & C, for example, ATC GTA etc. Each triplet encodes a small bit of biological information. The four letters in various combinations and permutations of the triplet codes define the genes which are packaged in the chromosomes.

The human has 23 pairs of chromosomes. The 23rd pair of chromosomes are the sex chromosomes. Women have two X chromosomes, whereas men have a Y and an X chromosome.
