17. Remnants.

We are all collections of remnants. We carry remnants of our forebears in our genes; each of us has specific sets of genetic remnants inherited from our parents, and their parents before them, and so on. But in our genes, we all carry common genetic remnants from the beginning of time.

Other remnants are carried by immigrants and refugees: the remnants of memories of family and friends and homeland.

And in our psyche, we all carry various types of emotional remnants, commonly known as "emotional baggage".
